Week 6 - 12th - 16th Oct
This week in Maths, we will be learning about number bonds (pairs of numbers that add up to make another number e.g. 3 + 5, 6 + 2, 7 + 1 all being = 8,). We will begin the week by looking at fact families and understanding that addition is commutative, it can be done in any order (3 + 5 is the same as 5 + 3). We will then use counters, part - whole models and tens frames to find number bonds for different numbers within 10. We will find number bonds to 10 systematically and begin to memorise them all. Finally we will compare number bonds e.g. 5 + 3 = 4 + 4, 7 + 3 > 6 + 2, 2 + 4 < 9 + 1.

Week 5 - 5th - 9th Oct.
This week in maths, we will be learning all about 'Part - Whole models'. A part whole model is a picture which shows how whole numbers can be split into two parts; for example the whole number 10 can be split into two parts of 6 and 4. This is often called 'partitioning'.
The children will become familiar with the terms 'Part', 'Whole' and 'Partitioning'. First we will use objects to practise splitting whole numbers up into groups, then we will use pictures to show how we can partition numbers.
At the end of the week we will be looking at the addition symbol and seeing where this can be placed in our Part - Whole models.

Week 4 - 28th Sept. - 2nd Oct.
This week in Maths we will be ordering numbers. We will put groups of objects in order using the vocabulary 'greatest' and 'smallest', and move on to ordering numbers as digits, words and pictures. We will learn our ordinal numbers (first, second, third etc.) and begin to use a number line to see numbers in order.

Week 3 - 21st - 25th September
This week in Maths we will be looking at comparing numbers within 10. We will use the terms more and less to describe groups of objects. We will then look at the symbols >, < and = (greater than, less than, equal to/the same as) to compare two numbers together.
