In maths, Year 1 children learn to read, write and count numbers from 0 - 100, including recognising numbers as pictorial representations. They develop their recall of number facts including number bonds, doubles, halves, one more/one less etc. and expand their maths vocabulary using terms such as 'greater than/less than', 'most', 'least', 'fewer' and 'equal to'. They learn strategies for solving one step calculations for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, such as using resources and drawing pictures.  They will recognise a range of 2D and 3D shapes, and begin to understand the fractions 'half' and 'quarter', both recognising these in shapes and numbers of objects. They learn to recognise coins and their values, and begin to measure and record lengths, heights, capacities and weights using standard and non-standard units. They sequence events using language related to time (first, next, today, yesterday, tomorrow etc.) and recognise and use language related to dates (day, week, month, year) including ordering the days of the week and months of the year. They begin to understand units of time including hours, minutes and seconds, and read and record the time to o'clock and half past the hour.
