Counting within 20

This week in Maths we continue to use numbers within 20. We will practise recalling one more/one less for numbers within 20 using our knowledge of counting within 10. We will practise using the vocabulary 'greater than', 'less than', 'more', 'most', 'less', 'least', 'fewer' and 'equal to', and use this vocabulary to compare groups of objects within 20. We will remind ourselves of the symbols used to show greater than >, less than < and equal to =, and use these to compare numbers within 20. We will then use our knowledge of comparing numbers to order numbers within 20, thinking about the number of tens and ones in each number to support us.

Week 4 - 23rd - 27th November

Counting forwards and backwards - 11 - 20

This week in Maths we will be looking at numbers from 11 - 20. We will practise counting forwards from 10 and backwards from 20, using pictorial representations for each number. We will practise reading each number as digits and words, and discuss how teen numbers are 'tricky' (they try to trick you) as you say the last (units) number first. We will then practise writing these numbers, discovering what the 1 represents in each teen number (one 10 - one full ten frame etc.). Following this, we will explore the concept of 10s and 1s using counting equipment, and begin to recognise the place value of each digit in these 2-digit numbers.
