Collage work in art

We have been looking at the work of some famous collage artists this term. We began by looking at the artist Henri Matisse and children enjoyed trying to figure out what he may have created with his art. We also looked at Megan Coyle's work. She likes to use magazines and newspapers for her collages.

As we have been learning lots about the South Pole, we decided to create our own collages by drawing a penguin and using magazines just like Megan Coyle. Have a look below to see some of our creations.

Dinosaur fossils and Investigating dinosaur poo!

In science we have been learning all about animals including humans. Within this we looked at what is meant by herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. We went on a dinosaur poo hunt to investigate what dinosaurs may have left their poo!!! Were they carnivores, herbivores or omnivores. We found carnivores poo had bones and egg shells in, herbivores poo contained leaves, twigs and stones, and omnivores poo had mixture!

In DT, we looked at fossils and we had lots of fun creating our own dinosaur fossils. Take a look at some of our pictures below.

Maths

We have had lots of fun learning how to count in 2's. We have been outside drawing a 'counting in 2's' ladder. We also used a spinner to land on a number and we then built that number using cubes and counting in 2's.

We have been learning how to measure height and length in centimetres. We went to the woods to compare the length of all sorts of things that we could find. We took some measurements using our rulers.

Once we got better with our measuring skills, we played a game using a spinner. We had to add or subtract lengths!

Take a look at some of our amazing maths!

Red Nose Day

It was wonderful to see children dressed up in different ways for today. We had princesses, superheroes, pyjamas, zoo keepers, firefighters, soldiers, tap dancer and rainbow hair. Take a look at our fabulous looking Rowan Class :)

Science - The 5 senses

Keeping with out topic, animals including humans, we have been learning about the 5 senses and which body parts are linked to those senses. Ears: sense of sound. Nose: sense of smell. Eyes: sense of sight. Tongue: sense of taste. Hands: sense of touch.

We investigated our sense of sound by going on a sound walk. We closed our eyes and listened to all the different sounds we could hear. We heard a bell, children playing, the sound of stones under our shoes, birds, cars and lots more. We learnt that sound is created by vibrations and travels to our ears by invisible sound waves. Our brain is really clever at working out what those sounds are!

We also investigated our sense of taste. We talked about sour, sweet, bitter and salty flavours. We carried out a taste test and had to decide which flavour we were tasting. It is fair to say we pulled some funny faces for bitter and sour tastes! Have a look at our photos below.
